TV star uses Baker Mike recipe
2:40pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in Keighley
A contestant on a hit BBC baking show cooked up a treat – with help from the Keighley News.
Deborah Manger tried her hand at a parkin recipe after spotting it on our website.
The dentist from Peterbo-rough was among 13 amateur bakers, chosen from thousands of hopefuls, who started the latest series of the Great British Bake Off.
She was eliminated in episode three.
Competitors in the programme take part in a variety of challenges, judged by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Deborah spotted the parkin recipe produced by well-known Keighley master baker Mike Armstrong, a regular contributor to our leisure guide, The Ticket.
She said she was delighted with the result.
“It turned out as described by the writer,” she said.
“It has now all gone. My elderly father and his friends ate the lot!”
And Mike, right, who was tweeted a photo by Deborah of her bake, was impressed. “You have a great moist bake with just the right height,” he told her!
