Worth the Tour group make helicopter plea
A community group established to help district residents get involved with the Tour de France Grand Depart is reaching for the skies.
Worth the Tour members announced their most ambitious project to date as they seek... a helicopter!
They would like to use the aircraft to enable them to create a new promotional video. Group members hope to celebrate the unique character of the area, and showcase all it has to offer to visitors during and after the big event.
Their idea is to allow video-makers to capture some of the district’s breath-taking scenes from up above, just as it will be seen by millions of TV viewers across the world when the official Tour helicopters are circling above the race.
Worth the Tour spokesman Gerry Crookes said: “We’d really love to be able to give visitors a bird’s-eye view of Bronte Country.
“A helicopter would enable us to capture the gorgeous moorland vistas and watershed landscapes, from Ilkley Moor to the wilds of Wuthering Heights.
“We appreciate it’s a long-shot, but we are hoping there is someone out there – maybe a local business or a flying club – who would like to get involved and help us ensure this project really takes off.”
The chance to film from the air would mean the group can maximise the visual impact of outdoor Tour-related installations, including turf sculptures and Holly-wood-style welcome to Yorkshire signs, such as the one put up in Oxenhope.
The video would also give a flavour of the area’s vibrant community life, featuring activities from ukulele singers, Morris dancers and Young Farmers. to train spotters and bellringers.
