Pedal power for Manorlands
3:21pm Friday 25th October 2013 in Keighley
Three men used pedal power to raise money for cancer charities, including Manorlands.
John Cockcroft, 48, and friends Steven Thornton, 51, and Andrew Mason, 47, cycled 167 miles along the Way of the Roses, from Morecambe to Bridlington, in August.
The challenge was organised in memory of John’s wife, Alison, who died after a three-year battle with melanoma in December 2012. She was just 48. John, a director at Skipton Bed and Sofa Centre, set up Ali’s Legacy and organised the bike ride to boost the funds of Melanoma Focus, the Manorlands hospice and Yorkshire Cancer Research. In total, £5,789.43 was raised. “Each charity will receive £1,929.81 to help with the fight against cancer,” said John. “The donations will make a difference in the lives of so many people.”
