A Keighley nursing home staged a memorial service for the families of its former residents who have died over the past year.

The well-attended event took place at Norwood House, in Greenthwaite Close.

The home’s director Baldev Chaggar said: “We felt that at a time when everyone is looking forward to Christmas we must not forget people who’ve passed away, and the families who will miss them.

“We contacted the families of people we’d lost in the past year in the home, and they were prepared to join us in the memorial service.

“Our manager Jennifer Smouse and our staff made a collage with pictures of the residents and prayers and hymns were sung by George Jarvis of Airedale Church with some of his church members joining in.

“Every family member lit a candle for their loved one, and one lady – Gwynith Jefford – gave a plaque with a tree to be planted in memory of her husband.

“After the prayers families joined us for tea and coffee. They were very grateful that we had done this, and said it brought back memories of their loved ones.”
