Oxenhope’s new post office was mentioned in Parliament only five days after it opened.

The service was launched in the revamped Station Road Co-op on November 21, after two years of having no post office.

MP Jo Swinson, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for business, innovation and skills, referred to Oxenhope while announcing government plans to commit £640 million in funding to the post office network for 2015 to 2018.

She said the problems facing the network meant new ways had to be found to ensure services were maintained.

“In many locations new operating models are enabling post offices to be re-established after a significant break in service,” she said.

“At Oxenhope, which had no post office since June 2011, a new branch opened in the Co-op and now offers post office services from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.”

Oxenhope Co-op manager Kiran Baines said: “We’re receiving wonderful feed-back from residents who are thrilled that we’ve re-introduced post office services in Oxenhope.

“Having a Post Office Local based within the food store makes it simple and conven-ient for customers to run all their errands at once, with services available during the store’s usual opening hours.”
