Keighley’s main shopping centre is enjoying a business boom.

Electronics franchise CeX has just opened an outlet and fast-food chain Burger King is moving in – creating 40 jobs.

And with other businesses also set to join them, Airedale Shopping Centre manager, Steve Seymour, said the outlook is bright.

“We are going through an exciting period of new business openings at the moment, which is really positive for the centre and the Keighley community we serve,” he said.

“In the past few months, we have welcomed two other new businesses – Anita’s Eaters and Acu Herbs – and we are looking forward to the opening of a new Keighley Cougars shop shortly.

“Fashion store Pink V Blue will also be joining us soon, having relocated into the centre from Low Street.

“All of this is on top of the news Burger King is due to open this month.”

He added: “What this shows is the hard work going on behind the scenes here to attract new businesses and improve the already strong retail offer we have – including M&S, Next, Boots and Argos – for the eight million shoppers who visit us each year.”

Keighley MP Kris Hopkins welcomed the influx of new businesses.

“All news of more jobs coming to Keighley is positive, but it is particularly pleasing when well-established employers are involved,” he said. “Both Burger King and CeX are familiar sights in many towns and cities, and are certainly welcome additions to the Airedale Shopping Centre.

“As well as providing new jobs, their arrival will help to boost consumer footfall into Keighley and provide a further boost for the local economy.”

CeX – which specialises in buying, selling and exchanging a range of technology and entertainments products – has a massive network of stores across the UK, Spain, US, Ireland, India and Australia.

Local franchisee, Ismail Ladha, said: “The Keighley store is being run for me by a team of nine staff, who are all experts in the latest technology and, what’s really important, are very enthusiastic about what they do.

“I chose the Airedale Centre for my latest franchise because of the position I was offered in the centre and the fact it is very busy.”
