A Keighley cafe and gift shop is celebrating being named tea room of the year.

The accolade is being given to Lavender Fields in Cavendish Street.

The business won a category in the Teaclub Awards 2013 run by hashtagteaclub.co.uk – a website set up by two Yorkshiremen who share a passion for tea.

The family-fun town centre cafe, which only opened in April this year, was singled out for the quality of its homemade cakes and scones.

Owner, Christine Young, said: “We’re really pleased to have won the award – it’s wonderful. I pride myself on making all the cakes and scones myself.”

Lavender Fields recently hosted a fundraising Christmas bread-making demonstration evening, which was led by Keighley baker Mike Armstrong.

Mrs Young said: “The demonstration raised nearly £50 to split between Movember and Manorlands.

“Mike showed how to make Christmas bakes. Samples of the goods and recipe handouts were given to attendees, who delighted in sampling the beautiful produce. The bakes were amazing, in particular the Christmas stollen. Everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
