A series of open-top bus tours in and around Keighley will be extended to cover Oxenhope next summer.

The Keighley Heritage Town Tour, which takes visitors and locals around the district’s historic sights and visitor attractions, was launched in 2012. The tour ran for 11 days this summer, and also took in Oakworth, Haworth and Cross Roads.

The double-decker bus, driven by Keighley Bus Museum Trust member Graham Mitchell, is run on contract to the Bronte Country Tourism Partnership (BCTP).

Partnership members agreed at their latest meeting that the tour bus should operate for an additional weekend next summer and during the last weekend of July.

Mr Mitchell said despite incorporating Oxenhope, each circuit should still only take two hours, as he will minimise the number of journeys through Keighley’s congested town centre. “The extended route will allow for some fantastic views,” he said. “I’d also like to add another stop close to Haworth Youth Hostel.”

Partnership chairman, Dr Matt Stroh, recommended drawing up written proposals for revised fares, which will be decided at the January BCTP meeting.
