Elderly residents of a Keighley housing complex need a helping hand in order to become green fingered.
Tenants at St Peter’s Court in South Street have launched an appeal for gardening equipment.
The residents, who are aged over 55, need hand tools, forks, spades, seed pots, gloves and trays for their new gardening club.
The initiative is an offshoot of an existing social club that involves residents in activities like bingo and film nights in their community room.
Community development worker, Jo Horrox, who is supporting the club, said the residents would be growing bulbs in window boxes and outdoor planters.
She added: “First they hope to make sure each resident has a window box if they want one.
“They also want to get a shed, tables and chairs outside the flats. It’s to encourage people to come out of the flats and socialise.”
Group members will also grow vegetables. They plan to apply for grants from their landlord, Incommunities, and the Community First fund Anyone who can provide equipment should contact resident, Chris Watson, by e-mailing chrispwatson@hotmail.com or call 01535 600317.
