Government plans to double funding for dementia research have been welcomed by Keighley MP Kris Hopkins.
He hopes the move will act as a catalyst for a global effort to tackle the condition.
Prime Minister David Cameron, speaking ahead of a summit on dementia, announced the UK would raise its annual funding for research to £132 million by 2025.
“This really is very good news, and it underlines the government’s absolute commitment to tackling dementia,” said Mr Hopkins.
“In addition to the increased annual funding for research, we have provided £50 million to adapt wards and care homes for people with dementia and new monies to support the Dementia Friends scheme, which seeks to boost early diagnosis for patients and help the public to better understand the condition.”
