Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre seeks charity partner

Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre is seeking a charity partner for 2014.

The chosen cause will benefit from fundraising activities and support throughout the year.

Manager, Steve Seymour, is asking any interested charities to get in touch via a direct message through the centre’s Facebook page, outlining their work and how being selected would be beneficial.

“We will then shortlist five and ask the community to vote for their favourite,” he said.

“We’ll work with the eventual winning charity to ensure they can get as much as possible out of their link-up with us, whether we are raising money or giving them space within the centre to raise awareness of their worthwhile work.

“There are lots of brilliant charities out there in our community, and we want to hear about as many of them as possible.”

Previous causes supported by the centre have included Manorlands, the Salvation Army and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

This year’s charity has been the Cross Roads-based Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which is expected to benefit by more than £4,000 as a result of the partnership.

Mr Seymour has personally raised nearly £400, taking part in a variety of events with family members, such as bike rides, an open water swim and the Keighley BigK 10K.

More money has been raised via collection days, a Christmas gift-wrapping service and a Santa’s grotto.

In addition, shoppers have donated more than 1,000 food items for the charity at a collection point in the centre.

Sara Atkinson, Yorkshire Cat Rescue founder, said: “To have something as big and prestigious as a shopping centre support you makes a terrific difference to a small charity such as ours.

“We really can’t thank enough the shopping centre team and all the generous shoppers for their support over this past year. It has been so valuable.”
