Two men have appeared in court charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of grandmother Mary Byrne.

Joseph Robinson, 22, of Westminster Gardens in Clayton, Bradford, and Thomas Healey, 20, of Brow Lane in Clayton, appeared together for the first time at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

They have been charged with causing the death of Mrs Byrne – whose eldest daughter, Sam Rees, lives in Keighley – on April 20 this year by driving dangerously in Mandale Road, Horton Bank Top, Bradford.

Robinson is also charged with conspiracy to defraud by conspiring with others to make a false statement for the purpose of obtaining a certificate of insurance, on April 19 this year.

Both were granted unconditional bail to appear at Bradford Crown Court on January 2.

Mrs Byrne, 51, died outside her Bradford home after a collision involving a minicab and a BMW.
