Keighley district features in an artistic version of a map depicting the route of this year’s Tour de France Grand Depart.

The map is being created by freelance artist and illustrator Michelle Campbell and is due to be completed by March.

Mrs Campbell, 46, who lives close to the race route, said she thought it was “fantastic” the Tour was coming to the region. “It’s a massive event and it will be a great boost for Yorkshire,” she added.

Her colourful watercolour map of the route shows both stages of the Grand Depart, including the section that runs from Silsden to Oxenhope via Keighley and Haworth.

Mrs Campbell lives in Mytholmroyd and has also produced a series of six Tour-related pictures featuring locations from the region.

She estimates the map will measure about four feet by two-and-a-half feet when finished.

“It’s something I’m doing purely for enjoyment,” she added. “I hope to have it auctioned off in July at the Harrison Lord Gallery in Brighouse.”
