A Worth Valley ward councillor said residents have been left confused by changes to their household recycling system.

Councillor Rebecca Poulsen, who lives in Haworth, said people in her ward received letters to say they had been given new recycling wheeled bins... even though they had not been delivered.

She added: “I’d just returned from holiday and found a letter saying a new wheeled bin had been left, but it must have been the new, space-saving variety as it was invisible!

“My existing recycling in the old boxes was not collected either.

“It appears I am not alone, as I’ve had many calls from residents who have also suffered from the same problem.”

Coun Poulsen added: “The whole rollout seems to be a disaster. I thought lessons may have been learned after all the problems with recycling centre permits last year, but it seems not.

“Yet again Bradford Council doesn’t appear to be able to organise something as straightforward as a recycling container exchange without causing a significant inconvenience to residents.

“I’ll be raising this with the council as a matter of urgency.”

Bradford Council waste minimisation and recycling officer, Edith Grooby, said: “Bradford Council’s Recycling Team has recently undertaken a major project to introduce a new fortnightly collection service to all the residents within Bradford District – this is a total of 200,000 homes.

“Within this project, they have had to integrate into the new fortnightly service the areas covered by Aire Valley Recycling (AVR) after the company ceased trading in July last year.

“There have been a few instances where the letters have been delivered ahead of the delivery of the recycling bins, and some residents have been left without a bin.

“This has been rectified, and by the end of this week, all the former AVR round residents who have requested a recycling bin should receive one.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
