Top sports turf consultancy STRI has launched a pioneering new management programme for golf courses.

The Harden-based company unveiled the initiative at the Bigga Turf Management Exhibition in Harrogate.

The programme uses state-of-the-art technology to help golf clubs monitor their courses, by accurately measuring and assessing turf performance and providing detailed data and analysis.

A special device identifies any problem zones, and recommendations are then made for improvements.

Paul Woodham, for STRI, said: “We’re delighted to launch this new programme.

“Reducing costs and boosting performance, the service provides golf clubs with a complete and objective view of performance across the whole course – tees, fairways, approaches and greens.

“By providing detailed data and analysis of turf performance, managers have the ability to make informed decisions on priorities for course management, and help develop effective plans for future improvements.”

STRI – previously the Sports Turf Research Institute – has supplied expertise and advice to sports bodies across the world, and provided input into the turf management at venues ranging from Wimbledon and Lords to Twickenham and Murrayfield.
