Haworth Riding for the Disabled (RDA) has been awarded a £9,643 lottery grant.

The Big Lottery Fund Awards for All cash will enable the charity to provide two additional nights – on Wednesdays and Fridays – of an after-school club for children with disabilities.

And it will also allow a school holiday club to be established at the Vale Mill Lane stables.

“This award is brilliant – it means we can expand even more,” said the group’s founder and manager, Jackie Butterfield.

Haworth RDA fundraiser, Jane Lawrence, added: “The after-school club will cover all aspects of stable management, riding and horse care, and skills taught will complement and reinforce those taught in school.

“The holiday club will cover stable management, riding, horse care and arts and crafts.

“The objective of both is to give children with disabilities the opportunity to participate in normal activities, and give them some independence whilst allowing the family a respite opportunity.”

The award comes just weeks after it was revealed Haworth RDA’s future was secured with a massive £406,751 grant from the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities programme.
