A Keighley school stamped out the January blues by coming together and creating a music video that is fast becoming an online hit.

With the fun of Christmas over and many students having just finished mock exams, a group of sixth-formers at Holy Family School decided everyone could do with a well deserved pick-me-up.

Inspiration was easy enough to find, with US R&B star Pharrell’s feelgood hit Happy conquering the music charts. Its video, of people dancing along to the track, was part of its charm.

A group of film studies students spoke to staff at the school and decided to make their own version of the video, featuring pupils of all ages, dinner ladies, caretakers and teachers singing and dancing along to the tune.

They started filming during break times on Blue Monday – January 20 – which is considered the most depressing day of the year.

They used their skills to edit the video, and it has been uploaded to video sharing site YouTube, racking up almost 3,000 views in just a few days.

Head of sixth form Sally Layas said: “The students just wanted to do something to lift them.

“It was just something we were going to show in assembly, but we were shocked with how popular it was when we put it online.

“We got more than 2,000 views in two days. A lot of our former students who are on gap years have watched it, and we’ve been getting views from places like Saudi Arabia. It is bizarre, but it was fun to do.”

People can go online to youtube.com/watch?v=pW8F8spa000 to watch the video.
