A Keighley mum said she was “gobsmacked” this week after learning she’d won our Perfect Partners competition.

Sally Metcalf had no idea her husband, Anthony, had nominated her for the accolade.

“It has come as a total shock – it’s not like him!” said the overwhelmed mother of two, of Nashville Road.

Anthony, 36, a jobless builder, put his wife’s name forward in recognition of all she’s done for him, their sons – Liam, eight, and Nathan, six – and others.

“I have been out of work for nearly two years and she has been our family’s rock,” he said.

“She has supported me, our kids and the family home on a part-time wage, and keeps the roof over our heads.

“She constantly puts others first, whether it is family or friends who need a hand. Sally regularly goes without so our kids have everything.

“Please help me give my amazing wife the day she deserves – it’s about time she put herself first.”

Sally, 32, a supervisor at the Lord Rodney pub in Keighley, wins a fantastic array of prizes.

The Airedale Shopping Centre has provided a package including a bottle of champagne from Marks & Spencer, chocolates from Thorntons, a bouquet courtesy of Max Flowers, a meal deal from Burger King, £75 photographic package from Ramzan Photographics, a £20 holdall from Bag World and a car parking voucher for the centre.

Khalid’s, in Low Mill Lane, is providing a romantic meal for two on Valentine’s Day, featuring a starter, main course and sundries, and a bottle of house wine.

Laura Hepworth, who runs mobile beauty and nails business Beauty2you, is offering a free manicure.

Entrants were invited to tell us why their loved one deserved special recognition.

“We received a number of excellent entries and it was not easy choosing a winner – thank you to everyone who took part,” said Keighley News editor Richard Parker.

“Sally is an extremely worthy winner, and our congratulations go to her and Anthony.”
