Airedale Hospital’s stroke ward has received a £475 boost.

The cash was raised through last year’s sponsored swim challenge, launched by the then-chairman of Craven Council, Chris Harbron.

A cheque for the same amount has also gone to Parkinson’s UK.

“I would like to thank last year’s participants for taking on the challenge in support of these causes, which are very close to my heart,” said Coun Harbron.

The 2014 swim challenge is now under way at the Craven pool. People can choose to cover six, 12 or 24 miles during the three-month event.

Proceeds this year will go to Airedale Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department.
