Police have today appealed for witnesses to an "unprovoked" attack outside a Keighley supermarket.

Officers are investigating an incident in which a man was left with facial injuries after being punched to the ground and kicked in Worth Way, outside Morrisons.

A police spokesman said the assault happened at about 2pm on Friday December 20.

He said the 44-year-old victim needed hospital treatment. The suspect, who was white and believed to be in his 50s, then walked off towards the town centre.

Detective inspector Neil Benstead, of Bradford District CID, said: "This appears to be a totally unprovoked assault, which left the victim with serious facial injuries.

"At the time of this attack the area was extremely busy with shoppers and people going about their business before the Christmas holidays.

"I would like to ask anyone who was in the area at that time whether they witnessed this incident, or if they remember seeing a man of stocky build, about five feet seven inches tall, with short hair.

"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
