A community worker is being sought to drive Keighley’s Big Local regeneration project.

He or she will encourage residents to take part in the lottery-funded £1 million plan to revitalise rundown neighbourhoods.

The involvement of local people is seen as vital to Big Local’s efforts to improve life across the Keighley East ward.

Big Local will operate for the next decade in areas including Stockbridge, Worth Village, Spring Bank, Woodhouse, Parkwood and Ingrow.

Several residents have already joined a steering committee, which also includes people working within the neighbourhoods. The committee met last week to continue discussing long-term plans for the programme.

The new worker will support the committee and help communities within the Big Local area devise improvement projects that could be funded from the £1 million pot currently available.

Workers, employed by Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Comm-unity Action, will encourage more residents to get involved and put forward their ideas.

Projects must have a long-lasting, positive impact on local neighbourhoods.

Contact Sonia Patel on (01535) 607775 or visit keighleybig local.weebly.com to get involved.

The next meeting will be held at Leylands House in Parkwood Rise at 6pm on April 1.
