A group of youngsters plan to develop several activities for their peers in Keighley.

The Keighley Youth Co-operative’s first project is a new youth group for girls held at Central Hall in Alice Street every Wednesday.

The project has already attracted ten members since sessions – led by Bradford Council youth workers – began last month, and any girls aged 13 to 19 are welcome to attend weekly from 3pm to 5pm.

Co-operative members will talk about this and other plans during a special event at Central Hall today.

The event – Get Involved – is run jointly by the Parliamentary Outreach Service and Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action (KIVCA).

KIVCA community worker Shaun O’Hare said the intention was to encourage people to influence decisions affecting their neighbourhoods by getting involved in the work of Parliament, local government and voluntary organisations.

He added: “They will explain the opportunities the Co-op offers to young people in the area to develop project ideas and influence youth provision.”
