A teenager with atheroid cerebral palsy is to climb the highest mountain in South Wales – using a walking frame produced by an acclaimed Keighley clinic.

Natasha Lambert, 16, will tackle the gruelling 2,907ft-high Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons with her all-terrain Hart walker.

The venture, which is expected to take the youngster about four hours to complete, is the second part of an incredible ‘Sea and Summit’ charity challenge.

Natasha will first sail more than 400 miles from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, where she lives, to Swansea.

She will be accompanied on her mountain climb section by a team from the Hart Walker UK clinic in Dawson Road.

Natasha’s mum, Amanda Lambert, said her daughter had been using a Hart walking frame since she was three, and it had transformed her life.

“It gives Natasha so many health benefits and has opened up a whole new life for her – she feels alive in it,” said Mrs Lambert, 46. “And everyone at the clinic is amazing.

“She has always wanted to climb a mountain and she is really looking forward to the challenge.

“We’re going to practice by walking up some local hills and doing a lot more walking ‘off road’ to get used to uneven terrain.

“It is going to be a big challenge for her but she’s very determined.”

Mrs Lambert added: “We hope it will show other young people in Natasha’s position what is possible, and perhaps make them think, ‘I could do that!’.”

Natasha is no stranger to adventure. She completed her first major challenge in 2012 when she sailed around the Isle of Wight, and last year she crossed the English Channel from Boulogne to Dover, a voyage completed in just four hours.

She has raised £27,000 for charity, and with this year’s challenge – in July and August – she hopes to coin-in £15,000, to be split between the RNLI, Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and RYA Sailability.

Natasha has also raised money as a thank-you to the Hart clinic for the help it has given her. She presented £2,260 from a sponsored walk so that another child could benefit from a frame.

Hart Walker UK director James Garwatuk said: “Natasha is already famous for her achievements, and we wish her every success with her latest challenge.

“We will be climbing the mountain with her to provide any back-up that may be required.”

She will also be accompanied by her mum, dad Gary and seven-year-old sister Rachel, as well as her coach, Phil Devereux.
