Motorist escapes unhurt after car bursts into flames in Keighley
A car being driven through Keighley burst into flames shortly after the driver spotted smoke coming from the cigarette lighter.
The flames appeared when the motorist stopped the Skoda Superb in Queens Road, Ingrow, and lifted the bonnet to investigate the source of the smoke.
Crews from Keighley and Bingley fire stations responded to the incident at 5.45am today.
Watch commander Steve Moorhouse, from the Keighley station, said the blaze took 15 to 20 minutes to extinguish, and that the male driver was unhurt. No one else had been in the car.
"The passenger and engine compartments were completely burned out," he added. "We were there for about half an hour."
He said the fire was probably caused by an electrical fault.
