A pair of familiar faces on a tandem received a rousing reception in Keighley district while carrying out a challenge to cycle the Yorkshire Tour de France route.

BBC Look North presenters Harry Gration and Amy Garcia passed through Silsden, Keighley, Cross Roads, Haworth and Oxenhope last week during a stage of their 241-mile ride in aid of Sport Relief.

Hundreds of people ignored persistent drizzle to greet the two presenters at Silsden Methodist Church last Tuesday.

The welcome event organisers had laid on an impressive spread of cakes and other refreshments to give the weary cyclists a boost.

People also took the opportunity to take their own photos and add some cash to the riders’ collection buckets.

After Silsden Mr Gration and Mrs Garcia pedalled to Keighley, where they paused in North Street to meet another welcoming party, which included town mayor Coun Sally Walker.

Coun Walker said: “They looked like they were doing extremely well – if a little on the tired side! Weatherman Paul Hudson was there as well by that stage, and quite a few people turned up and donated some money. It was lovely.”
