School children have experienced one of the ways people with disabilities take part in competitive sport.

The pupils at Ingrow Primary received a visit from two members of Bradford Jets Wheelchair Basketball Club. The visitors spent two days at the school, bringing 12 wheelchairs into school to show the youngsters how they can manoeuvre effectively and participate in the sport.

One hundred and twenty pupils from years two to six enjoyed a series of 45-minute taster sessions led by the Bradford Jets team.

PE co-ordinator Megan Reeve said: “This was about being inclusive, and showing how disabled people can get involved in sport. We do have some children at our school who use wheelchairs.

“The pupils really enjoyed the wheelchair basketball, though they did find it quite hard and tiring. We’ve been using lottery grant money to bring specialists like these to the school to provide opportunities for the pupils that they wouldn’t normally have.”
