An MEP for the region that includes Keighley district has said he will not be contesting the next European elections.

Yorkshire and Humber MEP Andrew Brons, a former college lecturer, was elected on a British National Party ticket in 2009.

He has since split from the BNP after disagreeing with its leader and fellow MEP, Nick Griffin. Mr Brons went on to form the British Democratic Party.

He stood unsuccessfully as a parliamentary candidate in Keighley & Ilkley constituency in 2010, polling 1,962 votes.

He has now confirmed he will be standing down when the European elections take place on May 22.
