Adventurers taking part in Manorlands’ 40th-anniversary trek to Nepal have met up for the first time.

The 20-strong team gathered at the hospice and discussed preparations for the trip in November.

The ten-day trek – which will start in Pokhara, known as ‘the jewel in the Himalayas’ – is expected to raise about £60,000.

Manorlands fundraiser Hayley Ibbotson said: “It was great to get everyone together to give our trekkers the opportunity to meet each other before they travel to Nepal and to share their training and fundraising plans.

“We’ve got a great mix of people signed up, all from different backgrounds and age ranges, which makes for a fantastic team atmosphere.”

She added: “Everyone has a different reason for taking part. Some are trekking in memory of a loved one, some are doing it for the experience and some just want to do something incredible to support their local hospice.

“Whatever the reason, we really do value each and every one of them for their support and for taking on such a huge personal challenge.”

Among those taking part is Mandy Smith, finance officer at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice. She has already raised more than £1,700.

“It will be a personal challenge for me, but one I’m really looking forward to, and I’m pleased to be able to do it and support Manorlands,” said Mandy, who lives in Oxenhope.

Places are still available on the trek. Call 01535 640430 or e-mail hayley.ibbotson@sue ryder.org for further information and to register.
