A Keighley supermarket worker has climbed England’s highest peak to raise money for Sport Relief.

Mohammed “Mo” Usman was among staff of Sainsbury’s who last week took part in the company’s Big Climb.

Staff at English stores climbed Cumbria’s Scafell Pike, which is 978 metres high, while Scotland and Northern Ireland staff climbed Ben Nevis and Slieve Donard respectively.

Each staff member’s sponsorship target was £500, but Mo raised £723 through support from friends, family and staff colleagues.

They added to the figure of more than £6 million already raised by Sainsbury’s for Sport Relief this year.

Mo said: “We had a fantastic day climbing Scafell Pike in torrential rain, 65mph wind, snow, sleet and freezing conditions!

“It was worth it and great to see all the 25 colleagues from region 54 push themselves and do it with a don’t quit attitude.”

Sainsbury’s in Keighley also raised money for Sport Relief by holding a raffle to win a signed Keighley Cougars shirt.

The raffle was won by six-year-old twins Bradley and Oliver Foulds.

Deputy store manager Faye Jessop said: “It was great to see real fans win this prize and their faces really showed their joy in winning.”
