An event is being held in Keighley to boost support for older people’s groups.

The gathering aims to showcase the benefits offered by Keighley Elderly Initiatives Group (KEIG).

Representatives from various organisations will be attending the event at Keighley Healthy Living in Scott Street, from 12.30pm to 3.15pm on May 2.

KEIG chairman, Ernie Lloyd, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for all the groups and clubs we have in Keighley to work together to create ‘one voice’ for the older community, as well as looking at ways in which we can address concerns and raise awareness about any issues.

“There is so much happening in Keighley and the surrounding area for this age group, and we are here to help support those groups in keeping their activities going and keeping them vibrant.”

KEIG will outline how membership of the umbrella organisation helps groups access funding information and details of initiatives, provision and agencies.

And its committee is collating a directory of services and activities, which groups are being asked to contribute to.

Keighley East councillor Doreen Lee, a KEIG supporter, said: “This event will help us make sure we can have as many groups as possible joining forces to create a list of what’s going on in the area, plus it’s a great way of networking for the members, sharing their knowledge, experiences and ideas.”
