Hospital bosses voiced concern about a patient’s struggle to arrange an outpatient appointment at Airedale.

At their latest meeting, the hospital’s foundation trust board was informed of one woman’s attempts to be seen by a consultant in the oral surgery clinic.

Director of nursing, Rob Dearden, said this woman was working full-time and had two young children so had little flexibility as to when she could attend.

He explained the patient had wanted to express her frustration after her appointments were cancelled.

He said that on one occasion, a letter informing the woman her appointment had been called off was sent to the wrong address. When the patient tried to arrange another slot, she was told the only time available was 11.15am on a Wednesday.

Board members agreed the woman had not received a good enough service.

Ann Wagner, director of strategy and business development, said: “Any of us would have been frustrated by this. It’s not the level of care we would like to have.”
