Oakworth old people’s welfare group meets at Holden Hall every Thursday afternoon, from 1.45-3.30pm. There is always something going on with bingo, dancing, etc at their weekly meetings and of course, there are always refreshments available. New members welcome.

There is now an art club at Christ Church on Thursday evenings starting at 7.30pm. This recently started, popular little group welcomes anyone with an interest in art whether experienced or just beginning.

Tai Kwando classes are held at Oakbank recreation centre on Thursday evening from 6-7pm, children aged six to 12 and 7-8.30pm juniors and seniors over 13. Keighley Youth Theatre, KYDZ, meets every Thursday at Oakworth Methodist Church. The group has up to 20 members aged ten to 18, and recruit new members through drama workshops. At their Thursday sessions the group learn drama skills as well as devising performances. They also present two stage productions each year.

Sunday: Christ Church, Sunday eucharist will be at 9.30am, and afterwards you are welcome to share tea and coffee in the church hall. There will also be a Heartbeat service at Christ Church this evening at 7.30pm. This is a service of prayer and song for all the churches of the village with music by Living Waters.

St John’s Church Newsholme, sung eucharist service will be at 11.15am.

Methodist church, the holy communion service today led by the Rev Barbara Walls will be at 10.30am and will be followed by refreshments.

Today’s service at Slack Lane Baptist Church will be at 10.45am.

Monday: Oakworth Scouts meet on in Monday evenings in Holden Hall, starting at 7pm. New members are always welcome.

Rainbows and Brownies meet this evening at Christ Church – Rainbows from 5.15-6.15pm and Brownies from 6.30-7.45pm. The ages for Rainbows are five to seven and for Brownies, seven to ten, after that you advance to Girl Guides.

Remember your mum or gran making rugs out of old clothes cut into strips and prodded through hessian to make cosy comfortable rugs? This craft is alive and well in Yorkshire, Airedale Ruggers having more than 20 members. A small group meet in Oakworth Methodist Church lounge on the third Monday of each month at 6.30pm. Anyone interested please come along, you will be most welcome.

Oakworth Morris dancers are always on the lookout for dancers and musicians to help continue the tradition. New members are always welcome and they claim that they can teach anyone to dance. They practise most Monday nights between September and July at Oakworth Methodist Church from 8pm but it is advisable to contact them beforehand to make sure there is a practice on the night you wish to attend. Tuesday: Oakworth Police and Community Contact Point is open every Tuesday, from 9-11am at Holden Hall. The volunteers are trained to give you advice or, if they don’t have the answer they will find it for you. Do you fancy joining the volunteers? A coffee morning runs at Christ Church, with Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits, from 10-11.30am and everyone is always made very welcome. There then follows a short eucharist service at 11.30am for those who wish to join in.

There will be a candlelight cabaret and seven-course mini meal at Oakworth Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7 starting at 7pm. The event, which is free of charge, features singing, dancing and comedy routines from various groups that use the church for their meetings such as the scouting and guiding groups, ladies’ group, Kydz youth theatre group and members of the pantomime casts both past and present.
