A Hollywood-style sign installed to promote positive messages during the build-up to the Tour de France has been displaying its most serious commandment yet.

The unmissable white lettering off Shaw Lane in Oxenhope was arranged two weeks ago to say ‘Read The Book’.

Worth Valley councillor Russell Brown, who started the Project Hollywood initiative, said the latest exhortation was designed to acknowledge the role played by local religious leaders in preparations to welcome the Grand Depart.

“We’ve had some of thesepeople coming to ‘Worth the Tour meetings who plan to serve food to spectators and I was thinking they might not get much of a mention,” he said.

“So the latest message has been a way of saying thank you to them.

“It’s one of the more unlikely messages we’ve had but it still ticks a lot of boxes because it also promotes literacy.”

Later this summer, the sign will read Welcome to Yorkshire in time for when the Grand Depart cyclists race through the valley.

Until then, the letters will continue to be changed every few weeks to create a new message.
