A FINAL rallying call has been issued to townspeople ahead of Keighley Gala.

The 138th annual charity extravaganza takes place on Sunday, with a host of attractions lined up.

Now organisers are appealing for the public to turn out in numbers to give its support.

Chairman Shona Brunskill said: "We hope everyone will join us in celebrating the gala – which is run by people of the town, for the town, to raise money for local charities.

"With something for everybody – a procession, live music, stalls, food, rides, games, a baby show, fun dog show and much more – we are really hoping for another successful event to build on for future years.

"Our message is please come along, watch the procession and visit the events in the park, to show your love for our town and the charities the gala supports, including Manorlands.

"Without people's backing the gala may not survive and it would be a shame to let it go under after all these years."

The event will start with the crowning of the gala queen, Charlotte Lily Carter, in Town Hall Square, from noon. A jazz band will entertain.

The procession will set off at 1pm from Spring Gardens Lane and head to Victoria Park via North Street, Cavendish Street, Lawkholme Lane, Bradford Street , Bingley Street and Bradford Road.

Attractions in the park will include fairground rides and stalls, face painting, charity stalls, sumo-suit wrestling, a ducking stool and food.

Live music will be provided from 2.30pm, with The Elderberries, Jonny B, Emma Feather, Haley Harrison and Kitty Le Mare among the performers.

The fun dog show, sponsored by Cobbydog and Just4Paws, will take entries from 12.30pm. It has an agility course and 16 classes, from waggiest tail to the most beautiful eyes.

And entry to the baby show, which features categories for 0-12 months and 13-24 months, will open at 3pm. There will be prizes for best boy and girl and certificates for each participant.

Procession and stall entries will be accepted up to this Saturday, space permitting.
