Keighley News: Graveyard to become garden extension Graveyard to become garden extension

Part of the grounds of the disused St Paul’s Church, Denholme, could become a garden extension.

Church Commissioners are consulting the public on plans to sell part of the former churchyard.

The Anglican church, on the Halifax side of Denholme, was closed in 1999, and six years later part of the site was earmarked for housing.

In 2012 it was revealed that the interior of the grade II-listed building had been badly damaged by vandals, including historic memorial plaques and wooden pews.

The Leeds Diocese said that the proposed garden extension would be on a burial ground, but stated the land would not be used until legal requirements had been met for the disposal of human remains.

No buildings will be allowed the land without approval from the Diocese. Access to any war grave on the site would be kept unobstructed.
