KEIGHLEY Show's new president has issued a rallying call to the community to get involved in the annual event.
Tim Robinson urges the public and businesses to support the show, held on the first Saturday in September on the Marley playing fields.
Although ostensibly an agricultural showcase, with traditional sections such as cattle and sheep, the event has a wide range of classes and attractions.
Mr Robinson, 56, from Steeton, said it had twice been hit by atrocious weather in recent years – the 2012 event was cancelled due to the saturated state of the ground – and had consequently suffered huge losses.
"As a result I am looking for as much support as I can," he said.
"I have written to over 150 businesses, with an excellent response so far.
"We also need volunteers to assist across all areas of the show."
Mr Robinson's family has been involved in the event for many years – his late father, Barry, was president twice.
"It is an honour to follow in his footsteps and it was a privilege to be asked," he said.
"I would really like to get more local, young people to come along to the show and enjoy the day.
"There are so many things going on, from baking competitions to horse jumping, amazing flower and garden produce and terrier dog racing, which is always a hit!
"Some added attractions this year include a cookery demonstration, wine tasting and more activities for children.
"It would be good to see increased entries for all the classes.
"The show is something my family has gone to and enjoyed for many years and we want to see it go from strength to strength."
Mr Robinson began working for the family produce, fish, game and poultry business as a young boy.
Eventually the firm– which started at Church Green, in Keighley – turned to outside catering which led to his father buying Steeton Hall, and it was transformed into a thriving family restaurant and hotel. It was sold in 1989.
Since then Mr Robinson has worked for Morrisons, and is responsible for all the supermarket giant's 500-plus market street departments.
