FRIENDS of a well-known Keighley man who died last month are planning a final tribute to him.

Alfred Levins, known as Freddie, was a familiar figure around the town but authorities are struggling to trace any relatives.

Now those who knew the Latvian are rallying round to plan a service.

"Freddie was a popular character and a funeral is being organised by a group of townsfolk who would welcome any stories, memories or photos of him," said one of his friends, Shona Brunskill.

She can be contacted on or details can be left at the Red Pig pub, in Church Street, Keighley, or the nearby Forteas cafe.

Mr Levins died, aged 93, on May 19 and appeals by staff at Airedale Hospital for relatives to come forward have so far drawn a blank.

Anyone with information should contact the hospital on 01535 652511, ext 4329.
