SWIFT action ensured a power cut in Haworth did not affect the Tour de France.
An underground cable on Changegate, Haworth, directly on the Tour’s route, blew late on Saturday evening.
Northern Powergrid staff worked through the night to dig up the road and repair the fault, keeping race officials informed.
A local tarmac company opened early at 6am and the material was taken to Changegate under police escort, allowing the road to be returned to race condition by 7.30pm.
Bradford Council officials, Haworth Contact Point staff and police community support officer Helen Wynne-Evans also played a part in ensuring the work was completed.
A Northern Powergrid spokesman said: “We’d prepared very carefully for the Tour de France, making sure we had the right plans in place to respond quickly to any issues on the power network over the race weekend.
“It was a real team effort because everyone knew the importance of getting the work completed on time.”
Worth Valley councillor Russell Brown said: “They were backfilling the trench when I went up at 5.30am. They must have organised it overnight.”
