MUSIC-MAD Keighley young people hope to shine by organising their first festival.

Members of the town’s Big Music Project are recruiting bands to play the Shine Fest on October 4.

They launched publicity for the event with a Flash Mob bringing together dozens of dancers in the Airedale shopping centre.

The Big Music Project is organised by Keighley’s Jam Top music centre with lottery funding.

Teenage acoustic performer Rosa Sargent, from Haworth, said the scheme that young people who had a loan music learn more about the industry.

She said: “The project supplies us with the ability to get hands on experience which allows us to develop our skills and expand our opportunities for the future.

“Ten young people, or Big Music Project Champions, meet to organise events along with the help of our Hub Leaders. As a Hub, we decided to work collectively to organise events.”

Rosa said the Shine Fest would be at Central Hall on Alice Street, with refreshments, a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and a multitude of performers and bands.

Anyone interested performing should contact Jam on Top on 01535 600133.
