EXACTLY 100 years ago on August 4 Britain declared war on Germany as part of the world’s first truly global armed conflict.

Keighley, along with its surrounding villages and towns, had its own vital role to play in this cataclysmic event, which would ultimately leave more than 16 million people dead.

This supplement, published in association with the Men of Worth military history project, is being released to give an insight into how these dark days in history touched the lives of so many living in our community.

Many families suffered great trauma as sons, brothers, husbands and fathers were sent away to fight – many of them never to return.

In addition to Men of Worth, the Keighley News would also like to thank Sue Oakley and Keighley Library for their contributions to this supplement.
