Fun and games laid on for youngsters in Guard House, Keighley

AT LEAST 130 children were treated to a feast of entertainment at Keighley's North Dean Road play area.

The youngsters, who were mostly aged five to 13, enjoyed free food, burgers, hot dogs, toasted marsh mallows and "fruit kebabs" at the session, which also included den building and an inflatable slide.

The summer holiday activities were arranged by several different organisations, including Eccleshill Adventure play team, Bradford Council play team, community worker Pip Gibson and the Bracken Bank Community Association. The event was also backed by ward councillors.

Alex Brown, a local resident and chairman of the Bracken Bank Community Association, said: "We're looking at developing the site for play activities, so this event was put together to give people an idea of what is possible.

"The weather was fine, but a bit windy. The kids have all been asking us when we're going to hold it again, so we know they enjoyed it. The fruit kebabs were especially popular!

"The activities did take quite a lot of organising, and of course they cost money to stage, but it's not a huge amount of money."
