A KEIGHLEY event to raise cash to help people with dementia raised a decent total despite a lack of response to a planned sponsored walk.

Staveley Road resident Lello Familio, 66, had arranged the "Memory Walk" in aid of the Alzheimer's Society for last Sunday. (Sept 7) However, in spite of handing out 50 sponsorship forms, no one turned up for the trek, which was to have involved a walk from Staveley Court into Keighley town centre and back.

"It was a shame," he said. "I was expecting about 40 people and it was a beautiful day so you'd have expected people would have come along."

Fortunately the same event also included a table top sale, a raffle and a tombola, which collected a respectable sum of £500.

Mr Familio also led a small group of Staveley Court residents on a short walk around their local neighbourhood. "It's disappointing that people did not come for the walk, but I'm still happy with the money we did raise, and it's all going to a very good cause," he added.
