KEIGHLEY Film Club begins its autumn season with a legendary director’s latest film.
Ken Loach's latest film Jimmy's Hall, certificate cert 12a, was shown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
It is the story of Jimmy Gralton who, after being deported in the 1920s from Ireland following the Easter Rising, returns in 1932 to reopen the 'Hall' as a free young people’s centre.
The historical drama reveals the tensions between the Catholic Church, the State and the Republican movement.
Keighley Film Club spokesman Alan Watkinson said: “Loach continues to combine anger at injustice with common sense and eloquence whilst retaining the courage of his convictions.”
The season will continue on October 15 with a rare showing of cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Mr Watkinson, the club’s vice-chairman, said the two-year-old club was now showing films every month at the Picture House.
He said: “We want to reach out to more members and users to find out what kind of films they like.
“Until now it’s been something within our group who has made suggestions.” We very much want to reflect what people in Keighley want.”
The club’s annual meeting will be on September 21 at Central Hall, Alice Street, from 2pm. Everyone is welcome.
Jimmy’s Hall will be screened at the Picture House, North Street, on Wednesday. Doors open at 7.30pm.
