STAGING a display at Saturday's Keighley Show reaped rewards for a Men of Worth appeal.

As previously reported in the Keighley News, the town-based military history project, which researches stories of local people who served their country during the conflict, has been given a rare group photo of members of Keighley’s Old Contemptibles Association (KOCA).

This organisation represented Keighley district men who were part of the 1914 British Expeditionary Force, dispatched to France and Belgium at the outbreak of the First World War.

The photo dates from between 1938 and 1946, and shows 40 association members outside Prince Smith Sport Club Pavilion in Keighley.

The image was handed to Men of Worth on August 4 by the son of one of the men in the photo.

Men of Worth member, Andy Wade, said following an appeal in the Keighley News, they have names for 18 men, but are keen to identify the remaining 22. And some of those were forthcoming when the Keighley News articles went on display at the Keighley Show.

Mr Wade said: "We had lots of interest in the display, and there were several people come up to us with suggestions for some more of the names.

"We're just awaiting their confirmation, but we're optimistic we'll be able to put some more names to faces."

A blown-up version of the photo, left, will now go on display at Keighley Library in the hope more of the men can be identified.
