A SEVEN-a-side football tournament in Keighley raised £1,500 to help victims of the recent fighting in the Gaza Strip.
The event at Marley was arranged by members of the north region branch of the Greater Sylhet Welfare and Development Council. (GSC)
Highfield resident Fulzar Ahmed, one of the co-ordinators of the tournament, said: "The turnout was great. This event was sponsored by local businesses, and without their generous support it would not have been possible.
"We'd like to thank all participants, volunteers and sponsors for making the occasion a success."
18 teams took part, including sides from Keighley, Leeds, Bradford and Oldham. The tournament was won by BACCA, a side from Leeds, who beat Keighley outfit AC Milan two nil in the final.
GSC north region sports co-ordinator, Aroj Ali, said: "It was a beautiful day. A lot of people got involved with helping us out, and there must have been about 300 people there."
He added that the money raised would be given to the charity Al-Imdaad Foundation, which has been working to help Palestinians affected by the Gaza conflict.
