COMPETITIVE games helped Hothfield Junior School with the silver in a government-led sports awards scheme.

The Silsden school gained a Sainsbury's School Games Mark due to their sports activities of the last 12 months.

The scheme rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and in the community.

There are able to access a range of traditional, modified and alternative sports activities designed to increase competition between pupils.

Bevan Bolland, Hothfield’s PE coordinator, said the award recognised the school’s progress over the whole academic year.

This included a school games day, after-school sports sessions, tournaments against other schools, and individual pupils’ involvement in local sports clubs.

Mr Bolland said: “Lots of children helped officiate the events at the games day.

“A high proportion of pupils participate in after-school sports – more than 25 per cent.
