A KEIGHLEY sea cadet was rewarded for his prowess in a regatta staged in London this month. (Sept) 1st Class cadet Adam Feaviour won a silver medal in kayaking at this year’s national sea cadet regatta. He had been entered into the junior boys sprint section.

A spokesman for the local sea cadets branch said: "This is the first time Keighley has entered this competition in a number of years and the first time that 1st class Feaviour has entered. "Adam has been with the cadets for 20 months, and has shown considerable skill in all water activities."

CO sub Lieutenant Joanne Goodchild added: "Adam was competing for Eastern Area against six other UK areas.

"The National Combined Regatta is one of the biggest competitions of the year, where there can be up to 500 plus cadets attending from all over the UK, including Northern Ireland.

"What Adam has achieved is remarkable considering that Keighley unit has not had an entry in this level of competition for a long time.

"I hope that this continues for the next 12 months, as our unit will be entering into many more contests and I hope we will bring more medals back to Keighley.

"I can honestly say that I'm proud, and Adam should be proud of his achievements."
