KEIGHLEY firefighters are due to walk out again in an ongoing dispute over planned pension changes.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced a further four consecutive days of strike action.

Members will walk out between 6pm next Friday, October 31, and 6pm on Tuesday, November 4.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton, of the West Yorkshire brigade, said: "Everyone involved with the service was hopeful that an extended period of talks and meetings between the FBU and the minister would lead to a resolution to the dispute.

"Clearly that is not the case and West Yorkshire will now be subject to an extended strike period by its firefighters, which is not good for anyone.

"The service will work hard to provide fire cover as part of a contingency plan. However the level of cover will not be the same as for a regular day or night and we urge the community to take extra care."
