PLANS to demolish Oakbank School – part of a £16 million scheme to replace the current building – have been submitted to Bradford Council.

Work is due to start late next year on the new structure, which is scheduled to be ready for occupation in September, 2017.

The existing building will then be demolished to make way for a sports field.

Applications to bulldoze three other secondary schools in the Bradford district, and replace those with state-of-the-art facilities, have also been submitted.

The projects form part of the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme, and the latest batch will mean £100 to £150 million is spent to improve seven secondary schools in Yorkshire.

Councillor Ralph Berry, the executive member for children’s services at Bradford Council, said: “The plans I’ve looked at are major improvements and they are very welcome.

“I’m impressed by the designs they have been able to come up with. It is very good news all round.”
