MANORLANDS has begun the countdown to its eighth annual Keighley BigK 10K.

As in previous years, the event is being held on Mother's Day – March 15 – and will start and finish in Victoria Park.

Last year's run and walk attracted a record 1,300 entries and raised over £60,000 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

And organisers are hoping for another bumper turnout.

Sue Ryder events fundraiser, Andrew Wood, said there had already been a surge in entries as people make their New Year resolutions.

"We want to give people something to work towards to keep themselves motivated to get fit," he said.

"We hope people will again turn out in large numbers to support the vital work of the hospice and enjoy the challenge."

Participants will each receive a goody bag and T-shirt and mothers will be given carnations.

Slight alterations have been made to the route, with support from Nelsons builders merchants and truGym Keighley.

Main sponsors are Leeds City College Keighley Campus, Skipton Volkswagen, the Airedale Shopping Centre and Convenience Hire.

As well as individual entries, there is a team entry option to encourage businesses, clubs and organisations to take part.
